Say “guests.” People who use The ROCk are guests, not clients, cases, or the homeless. Every person experiencing homelessness is someone’s neighbor.
Person first. “A person experiencing homelessness,” not “a homeless person.” Housing status is a circumstance, not an identity.
Never ask people to earn care. Avoid any framing that sorts guests into deserving and undeserving, or that makes services sound conditional.
The ROCk, styled exactly that way. Capital R, capital O, capital C, lowercase k. On first mention, spell out the full name: The ROCk (the Resource and Opportunity Center).
Say what it is, not what it is not. It is a purpose-built facility bringing shelter, a Day Center, and services under one roof. “More than a place to sleep” is the framing, not “just a shelter.”
Dignified Imagery Policy. No photographs or descriptions of identifiable guests without written consent, and no imagery of encampments.
